Summer 2014 Coding Class for Girls

This six week, instructor-led HTML seminar is held online and culminates in delivery of a well-developed website to a non-profit charity. The course provides students with the tools to conduct a client needs assessment, craft a scope of work (SOW), develop story boards (draft website concept), write code, engineer web pages, and cultivate a web presence. During the course, students will hear from industry leading guest speakers. After Byron Academy's HTML course, students will be able to:
  • Have a complete understanding of web development planning
  • Understand how websites are hosted
  • Explain the structure of a simple HTML page
  • Open a blank text document and convert it into a web page using HTML
  • Apply HTML tags for overall page structure
  • Format page text with size changes, italics, and bold
  • Explain the difference between standards compliant and non-compliant HTML code
  • Add special symbols not available on the keyboard
  • Customize web page colors, alignment and bullets
  • Construct a multi-row and multi-column table
  • Find and modify an image for a website
  • Make text and images link to other websites or pages
  • Create a navigation bar that links to the pages of the website
  • Have a basic understanding of search engine optimization (SEO)
  • Use social media to promote the launch of the website

While the course does not provide academic credit, students that successfully complete the course will receive a certificate of completion from Byron Academy as well as a letter of recommendation. Cost: $75 for students from unregistered schools / $25 for students from registered schools
